Windows Highlighting Out of Sequence Files

In the previous lesson "Windows Highlighting Sequential Files" you made two folders "Test One" and "Test Two." In folder "Test One" you created five text documents or files named "One, Two, Three, Four and Five." You learned how to highlight by pressing and holding down the Shift key and hitting the down or up arrow key to highlight more than one file. You learned that if you released the Shift key and just arrowed the highlight would go off of the group of highlighted files, and onto the file that you arrowed to. Another thing you practiced was unhighlighting the file you were on by pressing and holding down the Control key and hitting the Spacebar. There will be many times when you need to highlight more than one file in a folder that are not in sequence, or one after the other. You might have one file at the top of the list, one in the middle of the list, and one at the bottom of the list that needs highlighted. To highlight files that are out of sequence, up or down arrow to the first file you want to highlight. Press and hold down the Control key and down arrow to the next file you want to highlight. Hit the Spacebar one time to highlight that file. Keep the Control key held down. Down arrow to the next file you want to be highlighted and hit the Spacebar one time. Do this until you have all of the files you want highlighted. If you are not at the computer where you made the "Test One" and "Test Two" folder, and the files in the "Test One" folder, do the lesson "Windows Highlighting Sequential Files" first on the computer you are now at, and then come back to this lesson. Do the following activity to practice highlighting files that are out of sequence. There are headings and an audio demonstration link on this page. Use the letter h to move forward through the headings or Shift h to move backward through the headings. When you hear a heading you want to read through, use your down arrow key or "read all" key command. When you are finished, move to the link at the bottom of this page titled "BACK" to go to the "Simple Windows Lessons" web page.
